Educational Visits
Trips sit at the heart of our whole curriculum. We believe that the experiences children have beyond the classroom are just as important as those within it, providing opportunities to bring learning to life, broaden horizons and create memories that children carry with them throughout their education.
On average, every class takes part in three or more whole-class trips each year, carefully selected to complement and enrich their learning. Alongside these, children have additional opportunities linked to sports competitions, enrichment clubs and special events. Our pupils perform at local theatres and community events, represent the school in sporting competitions and take part in regional opportunities such as STEM Racing in Schools, giving them authentic experiences to apply their skills, talents and knowledge beyond the classroom.
Our programme of trips and experiences has been carefully mapped to ensure clear progression from Reception through to Year 6. Each experience has a purpose and contributes to developing the whole child. Across their time at our school, children experience a rich and varied programme centred around five key areas:

Civic Engagement – developing an understanding of our local community, responsibilities and the wider world.

Arts and Culture – experiencing the richness of music, theatre, art, performance, history and cultural experiences.

Nature, Outdoors and Adventure – developing curiosity and appreciation for the natural world while building resilience, independence and a sense of adventure.

Sport and Physical Activity – developing teamwork, determination, healthy lifestyles and a love of physical activity through participation and competition.

Wider Life and Future – broadening children's aspirations, introducing them to new experiences, careers and possibilities, and developing the skills and confidence they need for life beyond primary school.
Through this carefully planned programme, we ensure that every child experiences opportunities to explore, discover, perform, compete and contribute. Trips are not simply an addition to our curriculum; they are an integral part of how we help children understand the world, discover their interests, develop their talents and become confident, curious and well-rounded young people.
Our residential experiences are an important part of our wider curriculum, providing children with opportunities to step outside their comfort zones, develop independence and build confidence in new and challenging environments. Each residential is carefully chosen to provide a clear progression of experiences as children move through the school.
In Year 4, children take part in a residential day at Go Ape, where they develop resilience, teamwork and courage as they tackle physical challenges and outdoor adventures. The experience encourages children to support one another, persevere when faced with challenges and celebrate their achievements.
In Year 5, children spend time at Lower Grange Farm, which includes an overnight camping experience. This provides greater opportunities for independence and responsibility as children learn new outdoor skills, work collaboratively and experience the excitement and challenge of spending a night away from home with their peers.
By Year 6, children take part in an international residential to France, which includes a visit to Bruges. This experience gives pupils the opportunity to immerse themselves in a different culture, practise their language skills and develop a deeper understanding of life beyond the UK. It also provides a fitting culmination to their primary school experiences, combining adventure, cultural learning, independence and shared memories with their classmates.
Together, these experiences create a clear journey of increasing challenge and independence, helping children to develop resilience, confidence, curiosity and the ability to thrive in unfamiliar situations. Most importantly, our residentials create experiences and memories that children share, cherish and carry with them as they prepare for the next stage of their education.
